Mobile Apps and Sites Free to UMDNJ Users Only

• AccessMedicine Mobile Site - UMDNJ users must create a free personal account with AccessMedicine from a computer in the UMDNJ network in order to use AccessMedicine Mobile. Click on "MyAccessMedicine" at the upper right corner of the AccessMedicine website. Fill out the registration form and then follow these steps to use AccessMedicine on your mobile device:
  • Access the mobile site by opening a browser on your mobile device.
  • Go to: http://m.accessmedicine.com. You will be prompted for the username and password you just created.
  • Save the site to your home screen for easy access at a later time.

• Chest Journal App - CHEST app is now available free to UMDNJ users through iTunes® or the App Store. Once downloaded, users can use the app to access full-text articles through our institutional subscription and wireless Internet connection.


• DynaMed App via Skyscape - UMDNJ users must obtain a DynaMed serial number first in order to access DynaMed on a mobile device. To request a serial number, email dynamedsupport@ebscohost.com using your UMDNJ email address. DynaMed is accessed via Skyscape. Therefore, users need to create a Skyscape account on a computer before downloading the app to their mobile device. Here are the steps:
  • Go to http://www.skyscape.com/index/home.aspx .
  • Click on “My Account” and then "Create Account" to complete the registration form.
  • To download the Skyscape app by choosing "Skyscape Medical Resources" from the App Store on your mobile device.
  • Launch Skyscape on your mobile device.
  • Tap "Tools" and then “Install Resources”.
  • Enter your Skyscape account. At the prompt for Skyscape serial number, type your DynaMed Serial Number. Register and download the DynaMed app.

  Skyscape supports the installation of DynaMed on up to 5 devices of the same operating system. For example, if you have registered DynaMed on your iPhone, you can install it to your iPad using the same serial number. When you install Skyscape/DynaMed on the iPad, all of the resources that were registered to your iPhone are automatically installed. This behavior will also apply to the Android and BlackBerry platforms.

  The maintenance of switching/adding devices is handled through the My Account page on http://www.skyscape.com. If you want to have the product installed on a sixth device, you will need to deactivate the subscription from one of the other five devices. You are able to do this from the My Account page.   Access to DynaMed Mobile expires one year after registration. To continue using DynaMed Mobile, please follow these instructions.

• EBSCOhost Mobile Site - EBSCOhost databases website is optimized for mobile devices. UMDNJ users can access the EBSCOhost mobile site by visiting http://www.umdnj.edu/cgi-bin/libjournal/5565 on their mobile devices. If accessing outside the UMDNJ network, users will be prompted to enter their proxy account. Once authenticated, they can search CINAHL, Academic Search Premier, and other EBSCOhost resources on their mobile devices.
• EBSCO Mobile Access App - This page contains information on the availability of certain EBSCOhost apps and how to download them to search in mobile devices.


• Essential Evidence Plus - EE+ is optimized for iPhone, Android, and other mobile devices. UMDNJ users should create a personal account at the EEPlus website specific to UMDNJ at http://www.umdnj.edu/cgi-bin/libjournal/929.
  • Click on "My Account" at the upper right corner of the screen.
  • Click "Register" in the box on the right and complete the registration form.
  • To access the mobile version of EE+, simply launch a browser and go to: http://www.eeplus.mobi/m in your mobile device. You will be prompted to enter your EE+ personal account that was created before.
  • Add the screen to your home screen for easy access at a later time.


• First Consult App - UMDNJ users must create a free personal account with First Consult or MDConsult from a computer on the UMDNJ network. Follow the steps as below:
  • Access FirstConsult from the RWJ Library website (under “Clinical Resources” tab, or go to: http://www.umdnj.edu/cgi-bin/libjournal/2439).
  • Click on “Create Account” at the upper right corner of the page.
  • Complete the registration form.
  • On your mobile device, download “First Consult” from the App Store.
  • Launch the First Consult app on your mobile device.
  • Choose “I use First Consult and know my user name”.
  • Enter your account detail to access the licensed content.
• MD Consult Mobile - Use the same account for FirstConsult to access MDConsult on your mobile device. MDConsult Mobile is the mobile site of MDConsult available at http://m.mdconsult.com or http://mobile.mdconsult.com. You will be prompted for username and password, the same for FirstConsult, when visiting either of these mobile sites. Save the screen to home screen for easy access at a later time.


• PNAS App - PNAS is the official journal of the US National Academy of Sciences, covering the biological, physical, and social sciences. The journal is published daily online in PNAS Early Edition and weekly in print. Usng this app, UMDNJ users can access the PNAS table of contents, article abstracts and full text articles in pdf directly from your mobile device.


• PubMed for Handhelds - This is a mobile-optimized search interface for PubMed. UMDNJ users may access full-text articles through this site by using this link http://www.umdnj.edu/cgi-bin/libjournal/6565. Other users may access the site through the public link. All users can access journal abstracts and search PICO.


• Science and Science Translational Medicine - The online editions of Science and Science Translational Medicine are optimized for mobile devices. The mobile sites provide readers with the most-used features of the full website, and are compatible with all popular mobile devices. Mobile devices will automatically redirect to the mobile-friendly version of each site—which you can also view on any Internet browser by going to m.ScienceMag.org and m.STM.ScienceMag.org. Mobile devices operating on a cellular network will not be paired with a Site License. However, mobile devices connected to a wireless network affiliated with a Site License will have seamless full-text access to licensed content.


• UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Library of Health Sciences Mobile Site - The RWJ Library website is optimized for mobile devices. The website URL remains the same - http://www.umdnj.edu/rwjlbweb. The auto-detecting feature will automatically redirect you to either the desktop website or the mobile site depending your access mode. If you are accessing the mobile version, save the site to your home screen for easy access at a later time.
  
  


• UMDNJ Libraries Mobile - University libraries' mobile site links to the online catalog, resources and campus library information. It is now available at http://libraries.umdnj.edu/m/.

Free Medical Apps & Mobile Sites

• ABG - It is a multipurpose medical calculator.
• ACC Pocket Guidelines – This clinical practice support tool set from the American College of Cardiology Foundation provides portable references tools for clinicians.
• ACS (American Cancer Society Family of Journals) - Visiting http://acs.mwap.at/, if you are using an iPhone, will automatically redirect you to http://m.acs.mwap.at/, a mobile site of ACS journals optimized for view on an iPhone. For other mobile devices, you will be prompted to download a free ACS app to access instant and real time updates from the ACS journals, including upcoming events, and free content like the three news sections: "CancerScope", "CytoSource", and "Perspectives: Research in context.
• AHRQ-ePSS – Electronic Preventive Services Selector (ePSS) is an application designed and developed by US HHS for AHRQ to assist primary care clinicians identify the screening, counseling, and preventive medication services appropriate for patients.
• AJT App (American Journal of Transplantation) - In this free app, you can access abstracts published in American Journal of Transplantation and the AJT Report. It delivers content in organ and tissue transplantation and the related sciences.
• Calculate by QxMD – Formerly called Cardio Calc, this is a clinical calculator and decision support tool by QxMD software Inc. It is focused on highlighting tools which are useful in clinical practice and serve to impact diagnosis, treatment or prognosis.
• Dragon Medical Search – Free for a limited time only. It allows physicians to search online content on their iPhone using their voice.
• Drug Pronunciation Lite – It plays back audio of the correct pronunciations of over 200 drugs used in medicine today.
• ePocrates – It’s a mobile drug reference resource used by healthcare providers at the point of care.
• Eponyms (for students) – Eponyms is a tool for looking up the meaning of medical eponyms. It contains a short description of more than 1'700 common and obscure medical eponyms to the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
• ICD9 Consult Lite – It has the complete ICD9-CM on the iPhone or iPod touch, searchable and browsable. It is possible to upgrade to the 2011 codes from within the application.
• MedCalc – It gives easy access to complicated medical formulas, scores, scales and classifications.  Each formula has been individually designed and optimized for the iPhone screen.
• MedlinePlus Mobile (Mobile Site) - MedlinePlus Mobile provides authoritative consumer health information in a mobile-optimized Web site that includes summaries for over 800 diseases, conditions and wellness topics as well as the latest health news, an illustrated medical encyclopedia, and information on prescription and over-the-counter medications. Available via the Web browser of any mobile device.
• Medscape – From WebMD, it is the largest, most comprehensive free medical app for healthcare professionals.
• PubMed On Tap Lite – This is the Lite version of PubMed On Tap ($2.99). It has all the features of the full version except for a limit of 10 records returned per PubMed search and only the first 10 references in the library are shown.
• DailyMed (Mobile Site) - Provided by the National Library of Medicine (NLM) as a public service, DailyMed provides high quality information about marketed drugs including FDA labels (package inserts).
• Science Mobile - This free app provides access to the Weekly Tables of Contents and article abstracts for Science, Science Signaling, and Science Translational Medicine. The app's offline feature saves the latest data you accessed on your mobile device and allows for offline reading, saving valuable bandwidth. Mobile App users receive some free full-text articles, such as "This Week in Science," weekly Editorials, and articles found in ScienceNOW, the daily news service. At this time, the Science Mobile App does not offer access to full-text licensed content. Patrons who wish to read full-text articles must send themselves an e-mail with the DOI link of the full-text article from within the app or use the mobile versions of Science and Science Translational Medicine (see below "Sites Free to UMDNJ Users Only" for details).
• Skyscape - a set of smartphone applications developed specifically for medical professionals, including $$ based and free medical apps (downloaded apps are Archimedes, OCM, RxDrugs).
• Stat ICD-9 Lite – All 13,677 ICD-9-CM diagnosis codes are available for quick retrieval by disease classification.

Other Mobile Apps

• Dropbox (Free) – This app allows users to view photos, videos, documents, and presentations in their Dropbox on the go. Users can also save photos and videos taken with their iPhone's camera to the Dropbox. Files in the Dropbox can also be shared and sent via emails or exported to other iPhone and iPad apps.
• Google Mobile App (Free) - It enable users to search Google quickly using voice, pictures (Google Goggles), and location. It also links to Google's other applications so that users can easily navigate to them.
• iScholarReader (Free) - iScholarReader is a specialized document reader for research papers using Google Scholars. It enables users to search, bookmark, and download papers on their iPhones.
• JotNot Scanner Free - It converts an iPhone into a portable multipage scanner. JotNot Free allows users to scan multipage documents, receipts, whiteboards, business cards and notes into an electronic format.
• iBooks (Free) – It allows users to download and read books. Therefore it is also considered as Apple's ebook store and ebook reader.
• i-nigma (4) QR datamatrix barcode reader (Free) – i-nigma can be used to scan both 1-dimensional EAN codes and 2-dimentional barcodes (datamatrix and QR codes) off printed material. This version only supports iPhone 4 or iPhone iOS4 devices. For older OS versions, please download the original i-nigma.
