Ulysses S. Wiggins
1895-1966
Physician and Civil Rights Champion

Born in Americus Georgia of former slaves Hannah and Randall Wiggins, Ulysses S. Wiggins went on to graduate from the University of Michigan Medical School in 1924 and arrived in Camden, NJ in 1928.  Dr. Wiggins became affiliated with Cooper Hospital and served as a physician, school examiner and highway department surgeon.  He was also president of the Camden County branch of the NAACP for a quarter century and served on the association's national board.
