1a. An active UMDNJ CORE Account.
CORE accounts are used to log in to machines located in the IST computer labs and several other university systems. It is also used to access the University wireless network. The Core accounts are in accordance with HIPAA security requirements to enhance computer security. Your CORE account can be used to login for University libraries Remote Access. For questions about your CORE account please call the IST Help Desk at (732) 743-3200 or 3-3200 if you are calling from within a UMDNJ building (from E&R Building 1-3200).

1b. Your need to register with your local UMDNJ campus library.
When you register as a UMDNJ library patron, a remote access account is automatically created for you. This account consists of a username and a password. Your username is your last name. For UMDNJ students, faculty, and staff, your password is the last four digits of your UMDNJ ID Number. For affiliated individuals, your password is the last four digits of your patron barcode. For example, John Miller with an UID of a00256789 would have a Username of miller and a password of 6789.
If you have a compound name with or without hyphens: Drop the hyphen and leave a space. Sherry Smith-Jones becomes smith jones. Roberta Bronson Fitzpatrick becomes bronson fitzpatrick.
If your last name includes an apostrophe: Drop the apostrophe and leave no space. Mark O'Rourke becomes orourke.
If you have a UMDNJ libraries barcode on your ID card, you are probably already a registered UMDNJ library patron. If you are uncertain, contact your local UMDNJ Campus library for further information.
Please be aware that after you register, you will need to wait until the following day to use your remote access account.
